		Sapwood is light in color and can range from a pale yellow-brown to a greyish white. The heartwood may be either light brown in color or a darker brown with deep, golden tones.			
					
		Distinctive coarse texture and straight grain has longer rays than red oak.			
					
		Machines well, nails and screws well although pre-boring is advised. Since it reacts with iron, galvanized nails are recommended. Adhesive properties are variable but it stains to a good finish.			
					
		A heavy, hard and very strong wood with medium bending and crushing strength, low in stiffness, but very good in steam bending. Great wear-resistance.
